The institute of banking personnel selection is an examination body that conducts exams for selection of candidates for many public banks.
It recruits candidates for assistant/clerk grade and officer grade through separate competitive exams. IBPS also conducts exams for different Regional Rural Banks (RRB). The exams are conducted in online mode.
The exam is conducted every year at the national level. Candidates need to register themselves online for the common recruitment process conducted by IBPS. The minimum educational qualification for recruitment is graduation. The exam is conducted in three phases, prelims, mains and personal interview.
This stage consists of an objective pattern paper. The paper tests Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English. This exam has a total duration of one hour and 20 minute each section. This stage serves as a qualifying exam for the next phase.
This exam has a total duration of 3 hours 30 minutes with 30 minutes for descriptive paper. The descriptive test is used to assess the candidates’ usage of written English in a business setting.
This exam serves as the final written exam. Based on the scores obtained, the participating banks call candidates for the next stage.
The final phase where candidates have a face to face interactive session with high ranking bank employees in the panel.
The final merit list is obtained on the basis of marks obtained in main exam and interview.
This exam is conducted by IBPS to recruit candidates in clerical cadre through a pan India common recruitment process. Graduates in any discipline can apply for the posts. IBPS clerk is conducted in two phases, prelims and mains. Students are required to qualify both these exams to get selected for the post of clerical cadre.

IBPS conducts recruitment for Specialist officers (SO) for different categories such as IT Officer (Scale I), Agricultural Field Officer (Scale I), Rajbhasha Adhikari (Scale I), Law Officer (Scale I), HR/Personnel Officer (Scale I) and Marketing Officer (Scale I).
The selection process comprises preliminary exam, mains exam and interview.
This stage consists of an objective pattern paper. The paper tests General Awareness, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English.
The main exam consists of one objective paper on professional knowledge for most specialists. The post of language advisors such as ‘Rajbhasha Adhikari’ consists of an objective and a descriptive paper on their respective subjects.
It is for Regional Rural Banks which select candidates for smaller banks serving rural areas across the country.
IBPS holds Common Recruitment Process (CRP) for different RRBs for recruitment of Group A - Officers (Scale I, II & III) and Group B - Office Assistant (Multipurpose).
Minimum educational qualification for the posts is graduation, For Officers Scale II & III; there will be only one exam. For Officer Scale I and Office Assistant, preliminary, mains and interview are conducted.Other exams include SBI PO, SBI CLERICAL, SBI SO, NABARD, India post payments bank, RBI, canara bank, exams conducted by various insurance companies.
